* DEAD SEA SCROLLS & THE RUBIN MUSEUM - NYC- 4/2/12 – Depart the Village at 9 a.m. to see the “Dead Sea Scrolls:  Life and Faith in Biblical Times”, an exhibition at the Discovery Times Square 226, West 44th St., comprising roughly 500 artifacts, some dating back more than 3,000 years.  The scrolls are the oldest surviving copies of biblical documents.  They were discovered in 1947.  At 12:30 p.m. meet the bus to go to Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th St., the premier museum of Himalayan art in the Western world.  Lunch reservation for 1 p.m. (included) at the Rubin Museum Café.  Price Fixe:  choice of Turkey Frankie (a Mumbai-Style wrap of smoked turkey, lettuce hearts, cucumber Mint Raita) OR a Steamed Rice Bowl (Basmati or Bhutanese rice with choice of one topping & one chutney) which must be pre-ordered when you sign up, tea or coffee (unlimited refills) and a choice of one homemade dessert (cookies, brownies, fruit tart, etc.) chosen day of.  After lunch a 2 p.m. tour with a docent for the exhibit ‘Modernist Art from India.’  Depart museum for home at 3:30 p.m.  Bus will drive up Broadway from Columbus Circle to 138th St. to view the Peter Woytuk’s Sculptures.  Arrive back at HV appx. 5:30 p.m.  Admissions, docent/guided tour & lunch:  $44 (HV Owners); $47 (all others).  *Note, transportation by Coach bus is being paid for by a grant from The Federation Jewish Communities of Western CT, Inc. received by Annette Charniak.  deadline 3/14.

* FRICK MUSEUM & ASIA SOCIETY, NYC – 3/13/12 SOLD OUT - SECOND TRIP ON 3/27/12 - Arrive at the Frick Museum, known for its distinguished Old Master paintings and outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts.  Assembled by the Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick, the collection is housed in the Frick family former residence on 5th Avenue at 1 East 70th St.  It is one of the few remaining Gilded Age mansions.  Renoir, Impressionism and Full-Length Painting Exhibit features nine iconic impressionist paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir.  After your visit to the Frick, take the bus to the ASIA SOCIETY, 725 Park Ave, and 70th St.   Lunch at the ‘Garden Court Café’ is included with your trip.  Choose from a prix fixe menu day of trip of an entrée and beverage (coffee, iced tea, sparkling water or soda).  After lunch there is a tour with a docent of the exhibit, PRINCES & PAINTERS MUGHAL DELHI, 1707-1857. This exhibition focuses on the 18th century, the crucial period when Delhi moved from being the heart of the late Mughal Empire to becoming the jewel in the crown of the British Raj. Take time to visit the Asia Store.  Depart the Village at 9 a.m., arrive at the Frick 10:45 a.m.  Leave the Frick 12:15 p.m. to arrive at The Asia Society 12:30 p.m.  At 2 p.m. take docent tour.  Depart the Asia Society at 3:30 p.m., return to HV appx. 5:30 p.m.  Cost: $79 (HV Owners); $83 (all others).  Includes admission to both  museums, lunch and transportation. GRAND CENTRAL STATION & MASONIC GRAND LODGE – NYC – 5/10/12 – Begin your day with a docent led tour of the Grand Lodge of New York.  Dating back 228 years the Masons are well known for their charitable contributions and philanthropic endeavors.  Lunch will be on your own at “Eataly”, a wonderful Italian market-place.  After lunch there will be a magnificent tour of historic Grand Central Station, renovated to its 1914 glory.  Please note:  there is a lot of walking on this tour.  Depart the Village at 8 a.m., estimated return 6:30 p.m.  Cost:  $57.  deadline 3/30.


MENOPAUSE - THE MUSICAL - Palace Theater, Waterbury, CT - 4/17/12 - The Palace Theater is a culture and tourist attraction as a historic venue.  This play is a hilarious celebration of women and the change!  Four women at a lingerie sale with nothing in common but a black lace bra and memory loss, hot flashes, night sweats, not enough sex, too much sex and more!  This hilarious musical parody set to classic tunes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will have you cheering and dancing in the aisles!  See what millions of women worldwide have been laughing about for over 10 years!  Depart the Village at 6:15 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. show.  Estimated return 10:15 p.m.  Cost $67 for great orchestra seats (rows L, M & N) and deluxe coach.  deadline 2/29.


MOHEGAN SUN CASINO – Uncasville, CT – 3/12/12 – A gaming facility with a Native American theme; slots, game tables, poker, bingo, food and beverage outlets and gift shops.  Bonus Package $30 ($15 face value food voucher & $15 free wheel bet).  Depart the Village at 8 a.m., estimated return 5:30 p.m.  Cost:  $23.  deadline 3/2.


* WARNER THEATRE/WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION - Torrington, CT - 3/25/12 – Agatha Christie’s murder mystery, a Sunday matinee in an intimate setting for this wonderful classic.  Included is an upscale dining experience at the Litchfield Saltwater Grille.  Luncheon choice:  Filet Mignon Tips, Seafood Stuffed Shrimp or Chicken Rouladen stuffed with apple & sweet sausage.  Depart the Village at 10:45 a.m. and return approximately 5:30 p.m.  Cost:  $75.  deadline 2/22.


WESTBURY GARDENS – Long Island – 5/31/12 - Enjoy a day of elegance at the Old Westbury Gardens, a 1906 country estate of well known financier John Phipps.  Our day includes guided tours of both the incredible gardens and the mansion.  The mansion remains intact with its spacious rooms; fine English antiques and priceless art collections.  The gardens are considered one of the most beautiful English style country estate gardens in North America.  We will also have a buffet lunch at Papa Razzi Restaurant in Westbury.  Depart the Village at 9 a.m. with estimated return at 6:30 p.m.  Cost:  $81.  deadline 4/18.

WORLD TRADE CENTER SITE & BRAND NEW 9/11 MEMORIAL – NYC – 4/29/12 – The Memorial will be a tribute to the past and a place of home for the future - Honoring the lives of those who were lost.  First we go on a lower Manhattan tour to the financial district for a guided tour that includes Battery Park and Trinity Church.  Lunch will be on your own at South Street Seaport prior to our visit to the memorial after the tour.  Depart the Village at 8:30 a.m. and return approximately 6 p.m.  Cost:  $60.  deadline 3/9.
